Standard Tips for Rodent Control
Depending on the severity of your rodent situation, you may need to call a professional service to assess entry points around your home or business. Professional services may use spray deterrents (ask for non-toxic), leave traps, etc. For an additional fee a professional may seal up entry points and pick up traps weekly, etc. We suggest trying HawkOnCall first, to potentially save hundreds of dollars!
Keep your indoor and outdoor areas completely clean of food crumbs, spills, containers that can be chewed through (keep food in glass containers and much as possible).
Patch up as many entry points as possible. This is challenging, as mice can get through the smallest crack and rats can (and will) chew through most barriers. Search how to make a rodent-proof patch that includes steel wool.
Where entry points are accessible to you, sprinkle peppermint oil or sprinkle cayenne pepper in areas where rodents are entering or chewing, and repeat frequently. Be careful not to place cayenne pepper where pets could also come in contact with it, as it could be a painful and potentially dangerous erratant. Spray sink, behind kitchen drawers, behind stove, etc., with bleach cleaner (personal preference is Clorox Cleaner + Bleach) This is NOT the most environmental option, so use caution and care for other animals (and humans) in your home.
Put humane traps in places the mice are frequenting, but be prepared to either be disappointed if the mice avoid the traps or if you do catch any, to take them outside and away from your space to set them free. The benefit of HawkOnCall is not having to set and manage traps, because the mice stay away.
Before using sound devices that emit a high frequency pitch, be sure to consider other animals inside and outside your home. You may not hear the high-pitch sound, but imagine a high pitched sound piercing your ear all night - this could affect the mental and physical health of your pets or other animals. HawkOnCall does not emit a high-frequency sound.
